The principal pays the US$15,000 processing fee and the applicable gift, and each accompanying spouse or unmarried child under twenty-one adds a further processing fee and a further gift of US$1 million. A household therefore multiplies the cost rather than sharing it, and the arithmetic should be done before commitments are made.
Nobody travels free, and the total is not the headline figure
Families read the individual figure, picture themselves included in it, and are then presented with a total several times larger. The structure is per person, and it does not distinguish between an adult spouse and a young child. Hypothetical example: a household from Sainte-Cécile-de-Milton consists of two parents and two children aged fourteen and seventeen.
Working through the published structure gives four processing fees and, for the three accompanying family members, a further gift for each of them in addition to the principal's own. Whether every member of the household should be included at once, or whether some should follow later, becomes a real question with a large number attached to it. The seventeen-year-old's age also matters, because eligibility as an accompanying child depends on being unmarried and under twenty-one when the relevant step is taken.
