SAINT-ALPHONSE-DE-GRANBY · ONE PROFESSION

Make the credential, the offer letter and the treaty list say one profession

THE SHORT ANSWER

Hypothetical example: Priya is a medical laboratory technologist in Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby. Her Quebec permit uses one professional title, the American hospital's posting advertises a clinical laboratory scientist, and the treaty list uses a third form of words. Nothing dishonest is happening, and her qualifications are not in doubt. The application is still fragile, because three documents describing the same person in three vocabularies leave an officer to decide which one is the profession being claimed.

01

Pick the listed name and make everything else defer to it

Start from the treaty list and take the profession's name from it exactly. That name goes in the support letter, in the covering index and in any statement Priya makes about what she does. Her Quebec permit keeps its own title, because a regulator's document is not rewritten to suit an application, but the letter should explain the relationship in one sentence: the permit is the provincial authorization to practise the listed profession. The employer's internal posting title is the least authoritative of the three and should appear last, if at all. An officer who has to construct the link between three names is being asked to do the applicant's work.

02

Then satisfy that profession's own rule, in its own terms

Each entry on the list carries its own requirement, and they are not uniform. Some are met only by a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree, some by a licence, and a few by a post-secondary diploma or certificate together with a stated number of years of experience. Priya must identify which branch she relies on and produce the document that proves it, rather than sending everything and hoping. If she relies on a diploma-plus-experience branch, the experience has to be evidenced by employment letters with dates and duties, not by a résumé. Whatever is written in French needs a complete certified translation, including the regulator's permit.

03

Watch the boundaries the letter can accidentally cross

Two mistakes recur in otherwise careful files. The first is duty drift: a letter that adds supervision of the department, budget responsibility or business development to fill out a senior-sounding role can move the position outside the profession being claimed. The second is the arrangement rather than the wording. Work performed in the United States through Priya's own company, or an assignment where she invoices the hospital rather than being employed or engaged by it, is prohibited self-employment regardless of the quality of her credentials. Ownership interests in the American entity should be disclosed and reviewed before travel rather than mentioned at a port of entry.
